Proposed Park Site at 17th and Folsom

Envisioning New Open Space in the Mission
Proposed Park Site at 17th and Folsom
Eastern Neighborhoods Community Planning

Since January 2010, the City has been working with the community to develop a park on a portion of a parking lot at the corner of 17th and Folsom Streets. Concept designs were developed with the community and submitted for a State grant in 2010.

We’re excited to announce that we have received this grant and have funded the development of this site! Staff from the Recreation and Park Department, Planning Department, DPW and our community partner, PODER, will be working with the community over the next year to complete the design of the Park. See our revised timeline below. We look forward to working with you to build this park!

Process and Timeline

A brief series of public workshops will be held to finalize the conceptual design of the park space. Following concept design is the design phase. During this phase, the details of the park, including, for example what type of play equipment will be built, will be developed. After design, the project is put out to bid to construct the park site. Finally, construction of the park site begins. Below is a draft timeline of this process. We’ll be updating the website if changes in the process are necessary.

Final Concept Design (July 2012)

After a series of community meetings, the concept design developed with the community has been approved by the Recreation and Parks Commission. The adopted concept plan was presented and discussed at a community workshop in June 2012, where staff collected feedback on the details of the design. Staff will continue to develop the design's details, including choice of furnishings and play equipment, in coming months.
